Feel Inspired Again…

Several years ago, feeling inspired was not me. I wasn’t inspired about my life, my marriage or my career.

I was actually feeling lost, disillusioned and very disempowered.

At that point, I had no idea what emotional potential my brain was hiding, so feeling inspired was not part of my life.

This is so normal.

Modern life doesn’t leave mental space to feel inspired about what’s possible...we’re all just trying to get through, keep all the balls in the air and be able to go again.

Modern Pressure

There’s so much opportunity for personal pressure and when life demands so much, our energy levels tend to be low.

Most of us are just craving the next opportunity when we might get a moment of mental quiet or respite.

Any conscious time for emotional inspiration is swamped.

On a Discovery Call recently, someone understandably offered:

“I’d love to feel inspired - everything feels so much.”

Completely understandable and exactly where I used to be too.

But given inspiration relates to ‘imagining’ possibility...

…inspiration is a feeling that’s really worth seeking.

It’s so easy and understandable otherwise to feel emotionally lost and stuck.

Inspiration is such a powerful emotion to create.

It helps us to set meaningful, beneficial goals and pursue them.

What’s most exciting about feeling inspired is the possibility it invites and where it can lead.

Inspiration for me for example, changed my life forever, several years ago.

I remember EXACTLY where I was, sat on a chair, in the garden, next to the girls jumping on the trampoline.

There I was, first diving into neuroscience and realising that my thoughts were having a fundamental impact on my emotions.

I remember truly understanding for the first time that I had stumbled across an insight that provided amazing emotional inspiration.

“If my emotions are on the inside and my thoughts are critical to this process, what’s emotionally possible that I’d never, ever realised?!”

“Where could this realisation take me?”

Early in life, society’s often given us potential sources of inspiration:

  • Get on at school

  • Pursue a career

  • Meet a partner

  • Create a home

  • Consider a family and then...(cue social silence)...what’s the next source of inspiration?

In my opinion, any inspiration is then usually lost amongst how busy we are now, juggling all this!.

Added to this, it’s also the case that when life is busy and pressured, our brain is low on mental energy.

The areas that deliver creative thought and the possibility of inspiration are less accessible when you're brain’s tired.

So we really do want to consider creating the experience of this wonderful emotion for you on purpose.

Inspiration is available from thoughts that consider and imagine possibility.

For example, when you create a moment to be here reading my blog post each week.

If you’ve been thinking that showing up for yourself or changing your emotions is unachievable, even a small step each week of reading my blog is inspiring.

I suggest you let it be – inspiration is a great feeling that encourages creativity, growth and wonder.

In summary, feeling inspired it FEELS great!

Self-Support Step:

Take just a couple of minutes each day over the next week (perhaps when you’re brushing your teeth or some other activity that naturally provides a quick pause):

Ask yourself:

“What’s one small way I could consider a new possibility for myself?”

Now a little warning!

Brains often like to kick back against new ideas, especially if they involve the unknown.

But, they also like to provide answers when asked questions rather than being confused.

So, if your brain wants to be initially resistant to my suggested question, that’s fine! Gently persevere over the next week.

Just keep asking, gently each day.

Emotional empowerment is all about developing a relationship with your brain on your terms.

I promise that cultivating the feeling of inspiration and where it takes you is well worth it.

Small and gentle questions.

It might not sound very inspirational initially but small steps that compound quickly are exactly what deliver exciting neurological and emotional change.
