Feeling self-doubt? Here’s how you can support yourself...

Self-doubt. That uncomfortable feeling we can all relate to that creeps in when you're unsure of yourself or your abilities.

I used to believe this feeling in my body meant something. That I wasn’t enough or was secretly inadequate. I didn't stop to question it - I just automatically believed it. Like it was revealing some hidden truth about me being inadequate.

But here’s what I’ve now learned: our brains are wired to constantly scan for threats—especially social ones like being judged, rejected, or not meeting expectations. So if you’re in a high-pressure or high-performing role, your brain will be throwing self-doubt your way… probably on a regular basis.

Now, it’s true that sometimes self-doubt can be useful. It can help us pause, reflect, and think more critically. But when it goes unchecked it can become a heavy weight. It feeds procrastination, indecision, fatigue—it gets in the way of what we’re actually capable of.

So here’s a first step to supporting yourself: remember that experiencing self-doubt doesn’t mean you’re not capable. It just means you’re human.

In the past I’ve had people tell me I was excelling professionally... while I was secretly feeling self-doubt every single day. My feeling of doubt wasn’t indicating my true ability.

The difference now? I don’t automatically believe this feeling means something about me. I notice it, name it, support myself in allowing it to pass. It's a really a powerful shift to be outside the self-doubt with some perspective, rather than being in it. It’s a first step towards emotional relief.
